Restaurant Name: All India Sweets & Restaurant
All India Sweets & Restaurant: It's a big restaurant, not a confectionary outlet! All-you-can-eat for only $6.95! (That's USD $4!) After you dine, you can walk around the different Indian shops. Buy some imported silks while you're there.
Favorite Dish: Vegetarian Lunch Buffet: pile up on fruits, veggies, curries, basmati rice, yoghurts, dal, roti/naan and desserts. Great value and quality for money!

Restaurant Name: The Sand Bar
Excellent view of False Creek, the Burrard Bridge and English Bay beyond. Friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere even though the restaurant can accommodate 300 guests. Huge covered patio overlooking the water. Be careful what you order, or else your bill could set you back $50.
Favorite Dish: (1) Pad Thai: shrimp, pork, rice noodles, bean sprouts and peanuts ($10.95) and (2) a side of spinach salad: carmelized bacon, honey mustard and goat cheese ($7.95) with some fresh baguette and butter. This place actually serves Perrier!

Kaya: West Coast / Asian Freestyle

Restaurant Name: Kaya
I am convinced that this restaurant is one of Vancouver's up and coming places to eat, drink cocktails and to chill. Situated in Vancouver's West End, the restaurant is easily accessible, has great potential as a hip restaurant and offers cool Asian decor. Menu items can be altered at your request, and the head chef will carry out your request.
Favorite Dish: Kaya prides itelf in its West-Coast flavour with an Asian infusion. The food is served in generous portions and is unbelievably cheap. Try the vegetable tempura, squash with herb cream cheese and the vegetable/tofu pad thai. Finish off with some sakee shots. They have an awesome creme brulee for dessert too.

Earls: Two Parrots on the Patio

Restaurant Name: Earls (Broadway and Fir)
'Earl's' on Broadway and Fir Street. This is a trendy (and not-so-expensive) place to eat for the mid-twenties to mid-thirties crowd. During the weekends, this place is welcoming to families doing lunch and dinner, but come 20:00 hrs, the hipper crowd comes in to play: usually for something to eat after a game, a late night at the office, or just to celebrate a birthday. Sit outside on the patio - it's the place to be seen. There are 4 or 5 Earl's restaurants around the Lower Mainland.
Favorite Dish: 'Soup, Salad and Pan Bread' for $8.99. Choose the Clam Chowder - you won't regret it.

All-you-can-eat lunch for about USD $16!
Favorite Dish: The various Japanese dishes just keep coming and coming, served by nice Japanese waiters. Special thanks to Pia (VT's 'unigirl') for introducing me to this restaurant.

Pia (unigirl) says that this place has a major 'yuppie factor'.

Restaurant Name: Some Kind of Pasta
Forget the Old Spaghetti Factory! Come down to West 10th Avenue and step inside this cozy restaurant that is a pasta-lover's delight. There is plenty of seating (dark-wood) near the bar, near the windows and on the patio. This place is great for good west-coast style pasta for little moolah.
Favorite Dish: Try the mussels in herb tomato and olive oil sauce, topped on a huge portion of thick linguini noodles. It will take you a good 45 minutes to finish this (plus it comes with a baguette and whipped butter!)

Restaurant Name: Monk McQueen's
This was where my colleagues at PICS held my farewell luncheon. Although we didn't spend a lot of cash, we still came away with huge meals (and stuffed tummies). The fish and chips are excellent.
Favorite Dish: Fish & Chips.

Or did I just eat there on an off night ... actually several off nights?! |
