San Francisco Hotel Tips by eleanorbueza

I stayed at the Pickwick for 3 nights and absolutely enjoyed myself there. From the valet parking around the corner to the high thread count sheets, from the Parisien wall detailing to the excellent Body Works bathroom products ... this hotel had character and was not too large. It has a decent business centre and large lobby and bar off of the elegant reception area.

Unique Qualities: The best thing about the Pickwick is its location. It is just footsteps from Market Street, but because it is located "SoMo", the price drops by quite a bit. You are just feet away from boutique shopping, minutes from Union Square, and a quick cable car ride to the wharves.

I stayed at the Hilton-San Francisco on my first night in the city. I thought it had an over-the-top lobby, valet parking was extremely expensive, the rooms were blah (flowery bedding), the bathrooms small, and the room didn't even provide guests with robes or slippers to use. I think management has something to learn from the Langham Hilton in London.

Unique Qualities: This hotel is gi-normous. It has several restaurants, bars, pools, etc. to choose from, but given the limited time spent inside the hotel, I could not use the amenities/facilities. Walking from the lift to your room takes approximately 10 minutes, which can really take a toll on your daily set-off time.
