I can openly say that Vienna is the safest city I've ever been to/lived in. Some Viennese people believe the area around Karlsplatz Station to be slightly seedy (skateboarders are a nuisance to Viennese society, I suppose), but in general, public violence against ethnic minorities, foreign travellers, women etc. is unheard of.
