Take a picture of Hundertwasserhaus This building is supposedly the hippest apartment complex in Vienna. With the exterior and interior designs by Mr. Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who was the same designer of both the cool sewage plant and the Kunsthaus Wien, the Hundertwasserhaus is definitely attractive to young adults. I don't even want to think about how high the rents are!

Cathedral-hopping: visit the beautiful churches of this traditionally-Roman Catholic country. People of all religions are welcome to admire the different architectural styles of Stephansdom, Karlskirche, Votivkirche, Peterskirche, Franzikanerkirche, and so on and so on ... Each church in Vienna has its own distinctive character. These are places of contemplation and prayer: it doesn't matter what your religion is, or isn't.

Watch the Wiener Mozart Orchester: a 50-minute classical music concert at the Stadtoper, Konzerthaus, or the Musikverein. I watched a concert with my Canadian friend, Chad, and found the music and singing to be relaxing. Such concerts are geared towards tourists, but if you truly want to experience the classiness of syphonies played in historical costumes inside beautiful concert halls, you might as well spend the money. How often does one have the opportunity to listen to great musicians and opera singers in such beautiful settings? Concerts are usually held at the Wiener Stadtoper, one of the most famous opera houses in the world, or the smaller Konzerthaus and Musikverein.

Take a look at the world-famous City Opera House. Or better yet, catch a classical concert or opera if you can afford it! When first commissioned, high-society scoffed at it because the State Opera house was built on a low vantage point (some called it the house in the ditch), but people these days simply marvel at the structure where Don Giovanni was premiered more than a century ago.

On a quiet Sunday afternoon, just walk along the Ring around the City. It'll only take you 2-3 hours to see the many impressive buildings along the ring, including the Austrian Parliament, the Kunsthistorisches and Naturhistorisches Museums at Maria-Theresien-Platz, and the Town Hall (during the summers, there is a wonderful open air Opera Film Festival with a new film every evening beginning at sunset - in summer 2001, the extensive repertoire of Guiseppe Verdi was showcased), the Burg Theater, the Bourse, Schwedenplatz, the Stadtpark, the Opera House, the Hofburg, and so on and so on. Your eyes definitely won't be disappointed. All the shops are closed on Sunday, and you can pay more attention to the buildings, churches, and monuments. Vienna is a pleasure to behold. Enjoy!

Visit the summer residence of the Habsburgs, Schloss Schoenbrunn: you'll wish you were the lucky Empress who got to wear silk gowns and walk around manicured gardens. For more info, visit my Travelogue section. When at Schoenbrunn Palace, take either a guided or audio tour of the 1400-plus rooms of this gorgeous residence - each room has a different theme. Walk up the hill towards the Gloriette for an amazing full view of this elegant and former summer residence of the Habsburgs. It's so beautiful, it almost seems unreal. If you wander around the gardens, you'll eventually find yourself at the Tiergarten, the world's oldest zoo (founded in 1752). To the east of the gardens, you'll also come across Palmenhaus, the rose garden, the maze, and the most beautiful fountains.
