Restaurant Name: Mardi Gras
The serving portions are HUGE! Great food (very tastey), awesome beer, and a beautiful view of the Danube and hills beyond Vienna. VT's Agata_K (a pair of sisters from Toronto named Agata and Marta) joined me for a fun dinner here on Tuesday 31 July. This one waiter, Murli, was so funny - the owner took a photo of us three with Murli, who we claim to be the best waiter in the world. The atmosphere, drinks, food, and jokes are worth your ATS 100!
Favorite Dish: Schnitzel with mushroom sauce and rice; tuna fish salad.

Restaurant Name: Garten Heurigenwirt
Garten Heurigenwirt, for traditional Austrian food A true Heurigen in the 22nd district, away from where the tourists hang out. Intimate ambiance to enjoy a hearty Austrian meal.
Favorite Dish: The best Sauerkraut in Vienna, as rated by many colleagues who work at the Vienna International Centre. During Sturm Season, be sure to visit this lovely place and enjoy a few bottles of red and white Sturm (young wines from regional vineyards).

Sacher: The Original Sacher Torte

|
Restaurant Name: Hotel Sacher Café
Hotel Sacher Café, home of the Original Sacher Torte A piece of Sacher Torte (ATS 60), which is a rich chocolate covered apricot flavoured cake, is simply fantastic after an evening stoll along Kaerntnerstrasse. What is more Viennese than eating a piece of the world-famous Sacher Torte, at the Sacher Hotel, across the Vienna State Opera House, and sipping a tiny but tastey Melange? At this café/restaurant, there is also a great assortment of Austrian delicacies for any meal of the day. The decor is also baroque-fabulous, all in impressive red and gold!
Favorite Dish: The Original Sacher Torte (some people say that the Demel Cafe, near the Hofburg, was the orginator of the Sacher Torte ... you decide who to believe)

Upstairs is a spacious restaurant decorated in traditional Mexican style. Downstairs you will find the bar and dance floor. I remember this place well because my friends, Clare and Simone, pulled me up on stage and we did a Charlie's Angels routine in front of everyone.
Favorite Dish: Mexican food galore - and affordable too!

Schweizerhaus: Famous Prater Restaurant

Restaurant Name: Schweizerhaus
The restaurant is half pub/half restaurant, with plenty of seating inside and outside. The food is excellent and is really a local place where not many tourists come to eat. For meat eaters only!!
Favorite Dish: Try the "Champignons mit Tartar" - deep-fried battered mushrooms with tartar sauce. The Wiener Schnitzel is also excellent here and is served with traditional Kartoffelsalat. Another good thing to try is the Schweinstelze, which is a full kilogram of roasted pork thigh. With anything you order, be sure to order a huge mug of local beer.

Very fine restaurant headed up by the former Hilton Hong Kong's Head Chef.
Favorite Dish: Try the 6-part degustation by Wini. The prawn curry was the spiciest I'd ever tasted. Make sure you drink Gruener Veltliner with your meal to temper the hotness of the dish.
