I was first made aware of the old C&O Canal tow path by my cousin in Pittsburgh, Pa. I shipped my bike back to his house and we drove down to H'Ferry and stayed at the Quality Inn/Clarion located right near the back entrance to the park. Nice little place.
H'Ferry is a beautiful little town and the way it is situated, it reminds me of what Pittsburgh
may have looked like some 200 years ago. I love the way they are keeping the area preserved.
He and I rode the trail from Harper's Ferry WVa to DC, approx 65 miles from the Firehouse to the Washington Monument, for my early 40th b'day present....ahem...just a few years ago.
Our lovely wives drove the cars to Arlington, Va (Key Bridge Marriott) and then hit the Georgetown, Crystal City, Pentagon Malls and M St. while waiting.
The only bad part about that trip was the 90 degree temps and 90% humididty. In July so it was no suprise.
Last year, we went with Mrs Kal's baby brother, sister and her sister's hubby. We got sooo lucky and hit weather that got no higher than 84 degrees during the whole trip and with a slight breeze so the humidity was quite low and very tolerable.
We got a room at the same hotel in H'Ferry. We rode all the way into DC and to our hotel room at The Metro Marriott. We were so muddy and tired, we failed to get a pic of all of us on the Cap Mall. Guess we willl have to do it again!
