The Loch. Deserted and empty
Favorite thing: In case you hadn't heard, there is supposed to be a monster in Loch Ness...
Lots and lots of tourists actually believe this and come to see it for themselves. This is in spite the fact that none of them actually ever see anything!
A few do clame to have seen this phenomenon in spite of the statistics that say no sightings have taken place. (There is a contradiction in there). I hear most sightings are late in the evening. I don’t know why this is, but it is easy to remember, as it is coincidently about the same time as the Pubs close.
The green stuff on my picture is just a little smudge that I couldn't rub away, sorry.....
Spying on the tourists
Favorite thing: I can here give you a guarantee that you will not find the monster of Loch Ness. I am of course very sorry to disappoint you, but you can always go to Norway in stead and see the real monster.
To contradict the tip above, there are actually 3 monsters in Norway. You have the Sea monster that has been observed in the fjords, and then there is the most known one in the lake “Seljordsvannet” and also the lake “Mjøsa”

A little short?
Favorite thing: I think this replica of the Nessie monster is a fake. I have it from reliable sources that the real one, or I should say the real one if there is a real one, has three hunches. The one in the picture has only two. As I have already written there is not a real Nessie, so this is all very hypothetical. But there should be three hunches for sure. It makes you wonder if the manufacturer of this replica originally made it with three hunches and perhaps later found out that he could save some money reducing it to two. What is the world coming too? It is important to discuss maters like this.....
Fondest memory: I have a hunch that I should call the hunch a hump. What is your hunch?
Some would maybe call it a lump and others might be mathematical about it and simply call it a sinus curv....
I don't know why I am debating this...
Maybe I should go back and visit that pub. What was it's name? Oh yes.... "The Bothy"
The river
Favorite thing: OK, OK, I didn’t sail the Loch Ness on purpose. I had to, to pass the Canal going West. But if you really feel like going there, I recommend Fort Augustus as a base. There are great cruises out from there and if you find the Loch boring, you will at least find the area surrounding Augustus very interesting. Some would even say romantic!
Fondest memory: It is actually fun to be able to say now that I sailed on Loch Ness :-)
Urquhart Castle
Favorite thing: As to the Loch itself, there is very little to see. There is a Monster centre were I am told you can buy plastic monsters, and there is the Urquhart Castle. It is mostly in ruins, and there are more interesting castles other places.
The loch is actually quit big. It took forever to sail the length of its 37 kilometres. This is 1/3 of the length of the whole Canal. The Loch is also very deep with an average of 200 meters.
Moving on up the Locks
Favorite thing: Before my trip several people said, the farther West you go in the highlands the better it gets. I have to agree with this. It just got better and better. It is of course a matter of taste and all places have their charm, but some places have more...
A plant
Favorite thing: Only one spot on Loch Ness impressed me. At the West end you find the small place of Fort Augustus. The Pubs and stores are built on both sides of the lock gates that bring boats up to a higher level of the Caledonian Canal. See my Fort Augustus page.
Fondest memory: On the picture you see a plant. It is most unusual. For some reason it has managed to grow in a shape that looks very much like Nessie! I suspect it was gene-manipulated....
It is important to document what you see
Favorite thing: I refuse to believe in this monster. And just to explain this picture, I am not spotting for the monster at all. You see I spotted some interesting tourists on shore and felt the need to document this...
Besides, there is only one lake monster. That monster lives in the Seljordsvannet in Norway! The Scottish are only trying to steal the tourists from us!
