Korea's constantly changing--I've been there 4 times since 1995. Prior to then, I first returned to Korea in 1985. Back then, before Seoul being the host of the '88 Olympics, Korea was still a bit behind the times... not that Korea's a full fledged socioeconomically well-balanced country--it's not. Compared to many other Asian countries, it does not attract as high numbers of visitors, but if you venture outside of Seoul, there are plenty of places to visit and experience--keep that in mind. Regardless, if you love the hustle and bustle of a huge metropolitan area, prepare to come to Seoul and bump heads with tens of millions of individuals. Seoul and its surrounding areas boasts (or perhaps they shouldn't) one-quarter of South Korea's population. It is extremely densely populated, 25+ floor apartment buildings being the norm. With all its problems, Seoul is a fun city to get lost in. |
