    Local Customs: Flamenco: Verdiales
  • Tip Rating:
  • Verdiales is the tipical dance and songs from Malaga.

Ok, I do nto want to confuse you, but if you think Flamenco is only sevillanas dresses, dance and songs... I am afraid there is much more.

There are so many styles, that after many years living here I still do not know half of them lol

Bulerias, Alegrias, fandangos .... and more

    Local Customs: Flamenco: Sevillanas
  • Tip Rating:
  • Ok, now the most famous flamenco dance.

This is a photo of one of the shows we enjoyed the last 28th February, Andalucia Day.

Alll the flamenco schools in Marbella took their girls for shows to the main square in Marbella.

    Local Customs: Flamenco: Rondeñas
  • Tip Rating:
  • This flamenco dance, in my opinion has many things in commun with the Jotas of the north of Spain, I am not an expert so I can be worng lol

the nicer of this, is their dress and the detail of the hair....

    Local Customs: Flamenco: Diferent Styles
  • Tip Rating:
  • Some fo the diferent styles you can meet are:

Alegrias (I am not good recognising them, till I heard at the middle the famous "tirititram" lol

Bulerias y Soleares, normally is like poems with a satiric comment, there are many diferent ones, inside this style

Canasteras (sorry not good at all with this one) but it is famous thanks to Camaron de la Isla y Paco Lucia

Fandangos (very popular at the cadiz carnavals)

    Rumbas

Saetas (typical songs on Easter procesions)

Sevillanas, no need to explain this ones lol

    Tangos and Tanguillos

    Verdiales from Malaga area

Granainas, Guajiras, Lorquena, malagueñas, Milongas, Rondeñas, Seguiriyas, Taranta, Tientos, Cartageneras & Colombianas

And more, this are only some fo them .... lol

Local Customs: Holy Cross (May 3th) Granada
  • Tip Rating:
  • The whole country, but Granada is my favourite.

Crosses of flowers are set up in towns all over Spain and in which Mayos, essentially love songs offered up to the Virgin, are sung and unmarried girls are serenaded.

I love it, what can I say?

Local Customs: The "Córdoba Patio" Festival (May 6th to 19th)
  • Tip Rating:
  • This festival has been celebrated for centuries.

It is a competition to decide who has decorated the best patio.

Also on the same month, you have the cross one, the patio one, the wine one and the festival, all weekends have a festival.

Local Customs: Feria de los Pueblos, Fuengirola
  • Tip Rating:
  • Around late march and early april, here they celebrate the festival of the towns.

You can find here the speciallities of many countries and other regions of Spain.

If you are around.... do not miss it

This photo is at the Andalucia house, when the group of Castilla Leon finished dancing

    Local Customs: Sevilla April fair
  • Tip Rating:
  • Takes place two weeks after holy week.
I am personally not a great fan of this festival, as most of the casetas are private and if you do not know anyone in Sevilla, you will not enjoy in its best. I prefer local ones that are easier and not so crowded

Flamenco dresses, horses, lights, music, wine, food..... all together make this festival unique.

You need lots of energy for this 10 days of partying lol

Ahh, Andalucia :-)) I got a bit homesick, so here I am :-)) I learned Spanish in Malaga, so Andalucia will always be my most favourite of Spain. And Alpujarras and Grazalema.. ahh :-) Back for more :-))

I'm going to live in Seville for 2.5 months this spring and hope to travel to other places in Andalucia, especially places with festivals and cultural events. This page has a lot of great info!
