Spain Things to Do
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Things To Do: Routes 1: The Way of St James
  • Tip Rating:
  • Along the centuries, millions of pilgrims have made this way that used to take months to finish. Their final destination was Santiago de Compostela.

There is a classical route crossing the Pirineos, Castilla Leon to get finally to Galicia, but also there are more routes, one of my favourites is the North coast of Spain. Visiting all the little villages. I have not done till now, but It is a must do in my life.

Travellers doing this pilgrim during the old time brought to Spain many other European traditions, foods, etc… enriching our culture. Thats why in places as Asturias there is such a incredible selection of diferent cheeses.... for example

The old way of travelling included staying in Monasteries, hospices all along the route. Still you can do it.

The scallop shell (the symbol for the pilgrims) was in their clothes and still you can find it all along the way.

Along the way you can see little villages, churches and monasteries in Navarra, La Rioja, Burgos, Leon (do not miss the catedrals)…..

Things To Do: Routes 2: Silver Route
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vía de la Plata, or The Silver Route.

A roman path that crosses Spain from south to north, from Andalucía to Galicia, crossing Extremadura and Castilla Leon.

I visited part of the route in Extremadura, stopping in Merida, Caceres ….

This route became so well established that presently it coincides almost exactly with Spain's national road N630.

Things To Do: Routes 3: Moorish route
  • Tip Rating:
  • Spain - Alhambra at night: Granada
  • Alhambra at night: Granada

  • Visit the triangle of Andalucia:

    Sevilla , Granada and Cordoba

    I will suggest a week!

I will suggest to fly to Malaga and there renting a car to visit the other sites.

During the beach season (May to late October), Marbella or Torremolinos would be the best places to stay, as you could alternate busy sightseeing days of driving with relaxed ones at the beach.

Musts are the Mosque (Mezquita) of Cordoba, the Jewish Quarter of Santa Cruz, the Torre del Oro and the Cathedral's Museum in Sevilla. Do not forget the Alhambra (palace of the last Moorish kings) and the Jewish Quarter of the Alcaiceria in Granada …..
Cadiz is another option and driving from Malaga to Cadiz can be a delightful surprise

Things To Do: Route 5 Following Don Quijote de La Mancha
  • Tip Rating:
  • Who has not heard about the famous Don Quijote de la Mancha, it has been called many ways, my favourite is the Dreamer, in many ways many Spaniards we are similar, we like fighting against injustice, against anything in our opinion is wrong and our honour is as important as our name.

I had only been on Consuegra, never done the whole tour. But here are some other suggestions.

Lets began in Consuegra, go to the mountain to see the hill where he fight against the wind mills thinking they were giants.... It will take a few hours here to enjoy it, lets say two hours.

Now we go to Madrilejos a few km away, Camuñas, Villafranca de los caballeros, Herencia and back to the N_IV to Puerto Lapice.

From here we can change our itinerary and visit the National Park of Tablas de Daimiel and the Natural Park of Lagunas de Ruidera and we can finish in the Tomelloso.

Things To Do: Route 7 Alicante Coast, Costa Blanca
  • Tip Rating:
  • even if it is well know for the tourist resorts of Benidorm or Torrevieja, here you can also find monuments, natural spaces, and beaches of course lol

We can began the tour around Denia with some interesting churches, castle and otehr monuments.

On our way to Javea we can stop also in the Natural Park of Montgó.

After Calpe we find Benidorm. And after my visit ther for the vt meeting I suggest you to go off the ebaten path to a little town called Guadalest on the mountians.

In Alicante I would suggest to visit the CAstle on the top.

On the way down to torrevieja stop in Santa Pola to see the Salta lakes, even if you can also see others in Torrevieja.

  • PORT AVENTURA theme Park in Salou, on the Costa Dorada (One hour from Barcelona). An adventure journey through exotic lands round the world. In my must do activities as I have not been.

TERRA MITICA at Benidorm. To discover the different civilisations on the Mediterranean. Great to visit with your VT friends as we had the chance to do in Sept 2002.

ISLA MAGICA in Sevilla, to enjoy the discovery of America by the Spanish pioneers in the New World. Another on my list of must do one day.

MINI HOLLYWOOD in Almeria. A small theme park in Almería built around an old spaghetti-western film set where some legendary films were shot, including For a Few Dollars More.

    MADRID ZOO and Aquarium.

    Tivoli World, in Benalmádena, Málaga.

  • The best beaches I had seen. Such a lovely place, it deserves a visit, still not to crowded, as communications are not great.

This Natural Park is a must visit in Spain.

Is better if you avoid summer months if you look for tranquillity, but great if you look for partying.
