Cabo de St vicente and Sagres Fortress

by Carmela71 - last update: Nov 5, 2004

Till the XV century Cabo de São Vicente was consider as the Finisterre of the south, where the land ended and began the storms, mystery and darkness.

Romans already used to call it Promontorium Sacrum, showing us that this point has fascinated many before us…. :-)

Enrique The sailor created the school of Sailors here in Algarve one of the bests in Europe in that times, for that he brought the best astronomers from Arabia , th best italian cartographers, the brave saliler from Mayorca island …..

the fortress

If you got to Algarve, there is a place you should not miss, the Cape St Vincent that is the most southerly western point of Europe at Sagres.

It is a perfect day trip.

Who's this Pirate Drake? Surely you don't mean Sir Francis Drake, the heroic British seafarer, who helped relieve the Spanish of the gold they had plundered from America ;-)))
