    Cons :
    - Very old and dingy

    Dorms : 10 Arg Peso (2002)

  • Argentina - Typical statue and lamp-posts of BA
  • Typical statue and lamp-posts of BA
  • by swesn

  • Pros :
    - Excellent, excellent location for a relatively cheap hostel (by Buenos Aires standards). It is merely two blocks from Calle Lavalle, a busy pedestrian mall with EVERYTHING available and three blocks from Calle Florida, the other busy pedestrian mall with A LOT MORE OF EVERYTHING available.
    - Living room has a large flat-screen TV set and a huge selection of English movies for your selection.
    - Beds are very comfortable and toilets clean. The fan is very powerful.
    - Super friendly staff
    - Lockers are available

    Cons :
    - Breakfast is a pathetic little ‘alfajor’ – a yo-yo-sized sweet biscuit thingie with dulce de leche in between and dunked in white chocolate.
    - Kitchen is too tiny to be put to good use.

Dorms : 21.50 Arg Peso if you stay more than 3 nights. (2003)

HOSTEL CASA GRANDE: MAR DEL PLATA
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Pros :
    - Friendly staff
    - Moderate-sized kitchen with an 'island' in the centre with lots of burners and stoves so you do not need to wait around for a free stove to cook your pot of spaghetti. Having to face everyone else while doing your cooking, it is a great place to show off your cooking skills (or steal something from someone's pan while he is not looking).
    - Large, interactive dining area
    - Some cultural activities organised

    Cons :
    - A little bit far from the centre, about 10 blocks to walk but there are shops and cafes along the way, so the walk is never dull
    - Dorms felt a tad small, but it was generally comfortable

  • San Francisco Church in Salta
  • by swesn

  • Pros :
    - Fantastic location, merely four or five blocks away from the Salta city centre and the bus terminal. Convenient to head off in either directions.
    - Not so noisy as staying in the city centre
    - Excellent ambience
    - Great kitchen facilities
    - TV is in the kitchen / dining area... you can watch TV while you eat
    - There is a music room with CDs for you to pick
    - Guide-books available for you to borrow
    - Ping-pong table
    - Roof-top with BBQ pits for asados, but of course
    - Super-friendly and fun staff
    - Rooms and beds are very, very clean and comfortable
    - Lockers are available
    - There is a ice-cream parlour or heladeria right on the same block
    - A NORTE supermarket branch is just a block and a half away.

    Cons :
    - None at all! My favourite hostel in Argentina.

A recommendation : Take a room at the basement as those near the kitchen / dining room will be noisy.

    Dorms : 9 Arg Pesos (2003)

  • Pros :
    - Wonderful wonderful wonderful ambience and friendly staff
    - Lockers are available
    - Great kitchen facilities, with MICROWAVE OVEN (quite rare but so convenient!)
    - BBQ pit at the roof-top for the much-needed asados
    - TV / Living room is very comfortable
    - Homely dining area and backyard
    - Very near to the centre, Plaza de la Independencia

    Cons :
    - Can be noisy if your room faces the backyard as the hostelites stay up all night, chatting and playing music

I suggest you take a room on the second floor.

  • Argentina - Ruined baths under the Puente del Inca
  • Ruined baths under the Puente del
  • Inca
  • by swesn

  • Pros :
    - The ONLY CHEAP one available at the Puente del Inca
    - Provides multiple blankets, very much needed at night
    - If you have a tent, you may camp on the grounds for a fee
    - Surprisingly, there was hot water

    Cons :
    - Very grotty but this is a 'refuge', so tolerate
    - Bed-sheets are wafer-thin, terribly old
    - Need to pay a charge for using the kitchen facilities
    - Toilet is a LONG hike away. Look out for the switch in the day-light, for if you try to visit it at night, it is pitch-dark and you would wish you knew where the switch was... (how I wish!)

    - Lockers are available

    Cons :
    - Rooms are like cells, there is barely enough room to walk
    - Showers are unisex and the curtains seemed a little see-through
