Cusco is a magical city in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley (Sacred Valley) of the Andes mountain range.
This is the historic capital of the sun-worshipping Inca empire. Cusco's streets are just dripping with history with Inca's amazing stoneworks found along nearly every alleyways.
It is also the place to start the trek to the exceptaionally magical Machu Picchu, now one of the 7 new wonders of to the world (voted in 2007).
Cusco was found in 2006 to be the spot on Earth with the highest ultraviolet light level... whatever this means, but it sounds like the Inca knew what they were doing when they founded this place way back then, and they called it 'the belly of civilisation'. |
