Lounging sea-lions along the Beagle Channel - Ushuaia

Lounging sea-lions along the Beagle Channel

USHUAIA : BEAGLE CHANNEL CRUISE

Many cruise operators heading down along the Beagle Channel have stalls at the dock and the prices are more or less similar.

There are several types.

The 3-hour cuirse takes you through the Bay of Ushuaia, seeing cormorants and sea-lions along the way until the Les Eclaireurs Light-House and the sunken ship of Mte. Cervantes.

Directions: Many tour stalls are set up at the dock

Border between Argentina & Chile - Ushuaia

Border between Argentina & Chile

USHUAIA : PARQUE NACIONAL TIERRA DEL FUEGO

The park of mountains, lakes, rivers and valleys stretches west to the Chilean border and north to Lake Fagnano. There are several beautiful trails.

One is the Coastal Path and another is along Lago Roca all the way to the Chilean border.

Both are easily managed, if you do not lose the trail-posts. However, the weather here, being at the ‘end of the world’, is very cold and unpredictable.

It is possible to find archaeological evidences along Lapataia Bay, like remains of mussel shells. Tierra del Fuego was previously populated by a few Indian races, all of which are extinct now. Here, at the National Park, the area was inhabited by the canoeing group called ‘Yamanas’.

Sun-rise over the Bay of Ushuaia - Ushuaia

Sun-rise over the Bay of Ushuaia

USHUAIA : ARGENTINA'S END OF THE WORLD

The beautiful town is nestled between the freezing waters of the Bay of Ushuaia and the snow-clad peaks behind. Beyond the islands opposite and the Beagle Channel is nothing but Antartica.

I was there in summer. The sun was shining but the wind vicious. Many Argentinian flags had tattered ends as they probably had been subjected to the relentless wind for ages.

I just could not get used to imagining where I really was on the globe.

For the perfect sunrise shot, head to the bay at day-break for the sun rises across the bay.

As the town slopes upwards from the bay, my suggestion is to stay in a hostel higher up with a window that faces the bay. You will have an amazing view.

ALBERGUE TORRE AL SUR in my suggested Accommodation Tips fits this bill.
