"Flying up the Fox Glacier" Fox Glacier by Steve-H

We left the countryside after spending the night with friends and hit the road all the way to Fox where on the spur if the moment we decided to take a helicopter flight up the glacier. It was getting late and we just made the last flight, some japanese tourists were faffing about with cameras & money so we were whisked to the front of the queue and away we went.
Stunning, simply stunning...and to think I only said "stop here" because I fancied a beer. So up we went, did the trip from the sunshine to the snowy mountain top and back then off on the road to the beach. Road trips are like that, no ideas? just stop when it looks interesting.
It was pricey but worth it.

Here I am looking more commando than tourist, made it to the top in shorts and trainers then back down and off to look for a beach (or a beer)

A fantastic experience, flying low in a helicopter really gives you an idea of the scale of the Glacier.

• Cons:The cost.
• In a nutshell:There are few places where you can go from this to a beach in hours.
