Sydney, and indeed most of Australia, is a great place to eat. The largely coastal population have access to great seafood and they cook it in a great many styles, fusion is the word most often used to describe the Australian interpretation of dishes from around the world. There are heavy leanings on Asian food and home grown produce and it`s all great, usually eaten outside and with a bottle of great local wine.
Favorite Dish: We went to BAMBU, with the lovely Nikki, and tried a selection of cocktails but the menu looked and smelled great too, alas we didnt get to eat as there is too much to do in Sydney and too little time to do it, so we kept moving.

Restaurant Name: Oxford Street cafes.
The life style in Australia is supprted by healthy eating too. The cafes on Oxford Street for instance are typical of cafes all over Sydney, you will be hard pressed to find a fry-up, eggs and bacon are not the norm here and we enjoyed fresh fruit with yoghurt or my personal favourite, poached eggs on brown bread. You actually feel better after a start like this.

Opera Bar: Worlds greatest view from a bar?

Restaurant Name: Opera Bar
Lively and cosmoplitan, we arranged to meet a lot of friends here and we all had a great time, there is nothing like outdoor eating and drinking. Plates of pan asian style food, great wines a more than a few cold beers were consumed, we had a great time. It can be a bit crowded though and you will need to book well in advance for the new year celebration (worth it for the firework display alone)
Favorite Dish: I had some squid in a light batter that was much better than anything I have had in Europe. They now brew their own beer too, Opera Bar Organic blonde. There are 3 menus depending on where you are or the time of day. From the bar menu i can recommend the Opera Bar tasting plate.

Restaurant Name: Westfield shopping centre.
The food court is catching on fast, all over Australia, all of the food outlets in one place unlike the UK where they are scattered all over the place. A mix of asian and european food is the usual fair, chinese, thai, italian etc. The centre features 'Food on the Park', an 800-seat food court which extends to an outdoor dining balcony overlooking Burwood Park, and 'The Market' precinct, incorporating the best in fresh food retailers. The outdoor balcony affords great views of the city, useful for helping a tourist get his bearings.
Favorite Dish: I had the all you can eat chinese as usual, a cold fruit juice and a seat outside on the balcony.
