From Bangkok to Koh Phangan. Having left behind the madness that is Bangkok and forsaken a trip to the northern jungle we headed south to Surat Thani by train to the port by coach and out to sea past Ko Samui by boat to Ko Phangan where we rented a hut on sunset beach. That journey cost us the equivalent of £21 each for a return, probably the best £21 i have ever spent. We landed in Thongsala on the west coast and travelled by long tailed boat ( a long narrow canoe affair with a big car engine nailed to the back of it ) to Had Rin on the tiny southern penninsular, the journey back when we left was unforgetable, a tiny old lady on a moped took us one at a time, with all our luggage to meet a pick up truck that was powerfull enough to get us up the hill outside the village, the truck driver then guns it along the small and dusty roads that run along the edge of the cliffs, about 100 feet down to 3 feet of water, when we got to the road we all got out and kissed the tarmac. |
