| Once a home in Detroit's most prestigious areas |
About 125 years ago, this home was part of Detroit's most desirable neighborhood then known as "Little Paris" for the French designs that inspired these ornate mansions. About 70 of the 300 homes were reserved for Detroit's elite including lumber baron David Whitney and department store king JL Hudson. Today, what it left of this neighborhood is known as Brush Park. Its residents are a handful of hopeful renovators, homeless people, crack houses and the extensive damage of urban decay from a city suffering from decades of social problems, racial tensions and bureaucratic red tape. To see more of this once beautiful neighborhood, visit the "Abandoned Building Tour" travelogue. Photo credits for the abandoned building above: Halena Fisher, copyright 2002

I've been told by my dad that there are some homes on Boston Ave with bowling alleys and swimming pools in the basement.
