Chagall was over 100 when he died in 1985, but he was already thinking about inheritance taxes in the 1970s, so he made a deal with the government. In lieu of the taxes, he offered about 17 large scale paintings to France. France offered a museum to Chagall. The museum is small, but Chagall fans will be dazzled by his interpretations from the old testament and stained glass pieces.

Many visitors blow in for a day or two to see Nice and maybe day trip to Monaco. However, there are many possibilities for day trips such as touring a perfume factory in Grasse, cycling with the locals on a Sunday afternoon in Cannes, crossing the Italian border to Ventimiglia as the French do for good deals on typical duty-free items or a view of the Cote D'Azur from the cactus garden at the Medievil village of Eze which is located on top of a mountain and makes for a beautiful hike (see photo). From the international jet set to the party kids who see Nice as a rite of passage, there's something for everyone and every budget.
