Chicago, USA, might be known as the Windy City, but by November, the fierce winds of the Mistral can easily take the title when they begin to make their annual introduction to Nice. It's a friendly welcome, but far from warm. At full strength of up to 120 mph, they could give a Formula 1 driver a good run for his money.
By this time, the beaches were empty, the summer clubs had closed and the bulk of the tourists had gone home. It looked like the locals were ready to emerge from their hiding places.
