Egypt was always one of the places at the top of my wish list and it was like a dream come true when I stepped foot on this mystifying land.
Just a little bit of info...Egypt lies in the north east corner of Africa. Its size is approx. 997,740 sq. km. The official language is Arabic, however, in the ancient times, a combination of the Semitic and Hamitic languages were used. The Nile divides Egypt in half and the deserts are the Libyan, Nubian, and Eastern.
The flight from Malta to Cairo took around three and a half hours. From Cairo we boarded another plane which took us to Luxor. The flight was very pleasant and took an hour over the desert.
This is a photo of the Voyager (part of it, anyway :-). We boarded the cruiser at Luxor and spent three days cruising down the Nile and stopping at various sites along the way. The Voyager was very luxurious inside. We had a small but nice room with its own bathroom. It also had a small fridge and TV. The food served on the boat was excellent.
We had our own personal tour guide throughout the Nile cruise. A university graduate, Alex, was very intelligent and courteous at all times. His love for his country showed during the visits to the various sites as he explained everything to us. We were very impressed and he made our trip one to remember.
- Pros:Egypt is special, rich in history and friendly people
- Cons:Extremely hot summers; hardly any rainfall except for the summer floods; poverty in some areas
- In a nutshell:Egypt is fantastic and should be visited by everyone
