Eggspectation: My favorite breakfast/brunch place in Montreal (also found in Ottawa,Dorval Airport and who knows where else!) They're open for breakfast at 6 and until 3 or 4 in the afternoon and I have always found it to be a busy, hip atmosphere. The decor is happy and lively and the food is really good and just seems healthy!
Favorite Dish: I like the omelets.. the food is very good, just typical american breakfast stuff but lots of variety, color and freshness.

Chez Cora This was originally a family owned business and it has spawned into a chain of 50 breakfast places all over the province of Quebec. The atmosphere is usually bustling and full of francophones. For us, it holds a special place in our hearts and I am surprised to hear not everyone enjoys it as much as we do.. try it out anyway.
Favorite Dish: Gotta start off with that day's special fruit coktail. They usually have some pretty exotic flavors and the fruits are displayed above the kitchen. The rest is up to you, lots of cuisine to offer I like the eggs benny- you can have the regular with ham or for a veggie like me, replace the meat with mushrooms and brie cheese or asparagus or spinach and cheddar! There's also tons of savory and sweet crepes, french toast, omelets, fruit plates and the traditional egg dishes. Watch out for those cretons!

L'Avenue Neat atmopshere. Very small and intimate restaurant on the plateau with kitchen in the open (you can see them making all the food through a window from the outside).
Favorite Dish: The fish burger with hollandaise sauce or their pastas, plus the BREAKFASTS.

Just Noodles/ Juste Nouilles Crammed little sit down restaurant with good food.
Favorite Dish: My friends enjoy their peanut butter tortellini appetizers. They have tons of noodle dishes (with broth, stirfried veggies, tofu) though I was disappointed they put pork in their sweet and sour soup so I couldn't have any. Who puts pork in sweet and sour soup??

Le Triskell, close to the Greek Quarter and just off of Carre St. Louis. It is a pleasant creperie restaurant that mainly serves crepes and frogs legs (cuisses de grenouilles) which evidently taste more like fish than chicken. Nice calm ambiance, candles, quiet small.
Favorite Dish: Savory crepe with mushrooms and bechamel sauce. MMMMMMMM! You could also try the frogs legs just to do the whole classic french thing.... my friend who tried them enjoyed them... There is also a dinner special that includes dessert, coffee or tea, an appetizer and a very large crepe at a decent price.

Restaurant Name: Mexicali Rosas
Small great restaurant where I used to work. The Downstairs is bar-style and the upstairs has a nice dining room. Excellent food (try the enchiladas or fajitas!), great drinks at a medium price. Open for lunch and dinner until 11 weekdays and 12 weekends.
Favorite Dish: The Mexican flag- a chicken, cheese and beef enchilada served with three sauces, rice, beans and salad. Fajitas are excellent. Others recommend the chimichanga, the mexicali salad for lighter fair. Try one of the famous margaritas!

Restaurant Name: Chu Chi
The menu includes excellent thai favorites that are all vegetarian! Yes, even the duck, pork, chicken, beef, fish, shrimp is vegetarian!!!! A very small restaurant with a nice terrace in the summer time. Very clean, crisp, mature atmosphere with nice dishes and white linen cloth tables.
Favorite Dish: You have to try the vegetarian shrimp with the red curry sauce and with some sticky rice!! So delicious and it is hard to believe that it is not real meat!

Restaurant Name: Santropol Cafe
This is an amazing little cafe with a beautiful inside decor and fantastic terrace in the back open in the warmer months. You eat next to a gorgeous garden and japanese pond complete with the fish. The food is light and healthy and different. Check this cafe out on the way to or from the Tam Tam Festival which is held in Mont Royal park every sunday in the summer.
Favorite Dish: They have huge double decker sandwiches, great cakey desserts and a fabulous salad with huge, fresh vegetables.

Cosmo's: Greasy Spoon

Restaurant Name: Cosmo's
This little greasy spoon is very famous in Montreal: its only a counter with a few seats but on weekends (and even some weekdays) it is so busy you have to wait in line: in summer there is seating outside on their makeshift terrace (sidewalk). It is owned by a Greek family- they even make a documentary of this place, featuring Tony who is the father. Children Nick, Johnny, Nikki and cousin Helen will be there to serve you otherwise!
Favorite Dish: Veggie omelet with cheese and Tony's famous potatos. Breakfast food is their specialty although they can make sandwiches and hamburgers. No one really looks at a menu in this place so you just have to know what to get... if you don't mind meat, try a mish mash (HUGE) or a creation (sandwich on your choice of bread with egg, cheese, bacon, salami and your choice of toppings).
