Welcome to Grand Canyon National Park

Vt'ers at the Grand Canyon
A place of tremendous beauty, peace and scenic grandeur.
The Grand canyon today is a gift from the past generation.
Perhaps no landscape on Earth is a surprising as the vast yet intricate face of the Grand Canyon.
It is the ensemble of stunning dimensions-, over its 277 mile (446Km) length, varies in width. Along the south rim it is from 8-16 miles (13-26km) wide, depending on where you want to measure, the melding of depth, width, and length - that sets the GrandCanyon apart. Nowhere else is such a dazzling variety of colorful rock layers, impressive buttes, and shadowed side canyons revealed in such a dramatic chasm.
Colorado river cutting through the canyon.

Colorado River

Over several million years ago the Colorado River has carved an immense chasm through this arid land. As the water drained off the western slopes of the southern Rocky Mountains and across the Colorado Plateau, it carries sand, gravel, rocks, cutting down througth the ancient layers. Without the uplift of the Colorado Plateau, there would not have been thousands of feet of rock above sea level to cut through. From Yavapai point on the South Rim to the Colorado River is an elevation change of 4600 feet(1400 m), yet the river is still 2450 feet (750 m) above the sea level.
The river carries eroded material to the Gulf of California.
How "Grand " can it be!
