A Local's New Orleans THE OLD CARROLLTON COURT HOUSE My Favorite New Orleans Neighborhood Everyone is familiar with New Orleans French Quarter but New Orleans has many historic and unique neighborhoods. My favorite is the Old Carrollton area. From the "Riverbend" to Xavier University Carrolton Ave. runs through this beautiful neighborhood. Originally Carrollton was a separate city that was incorporated into New Orleans in 1843. Many old church buildings, houses, and even the Old City Hall still exist today. Unfortunately the Street Car Line was shortened and runs just from St. Charles Ave. to Claiborne Ave. The shopping areas on Oak and Maple Streets offer small shops, restaurants, and music clubs. The famous "Camellia Grill", and "Rock-N-Bowl" are at opposites ends of Carrollton Avenue. Almost any type of food, American, Asian, Cuban, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Lebanese, Thai, Vietnamese is found along Carrollton Ave. And of course my family lives there, so I get to visit a lot. |
