NAMUR is the gateway to the Belgian Ardennes and, due to its being at the junction of the Sambre and the Meuse (2 rivers), has been strategically important throughout History. It has had to withstand siege from the time of the Roman invasion under Julius Caesar up until its occupation during the World War II.
High above the city stands the symbol for its military importance - the Citadel.
Although once a city fortification it is now a unique natural park with a breathtaking panoramic view over the Meuse valley.
Don't miss this place when coming in Belgium ! Located in 55 km south of Brussels.
This is one of the most beautiful art cities in Belgium !!! See the pic !
I lived in Namur area (called LA BRUYERE) during 30 years. I also created the web site of this tourism office : www.respublica.fr/si_labruyere (only in French, but with great pics).
