We visited the falls on my second Canadian day.
It was snowing and the wind was blowing but hey! we Dutchies can take it!

The falls were covered in mist and the clouds were low but later on the weather improved some so parting from it took some time for we kept seeing something that we had to photograph.

Some facts:
The Niagara river is about 58 kilometers / 36 miles in length and is the natural outlet from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario.
At the American falls the water plunges from 21 to 34 metres (70 - 110 ft.) to a talus slope at the base of the falls.
The Canadian Horseshoe Falls, for the most part, falls 54 metres (176 ft) into the Maid of the Mist pool.
The Niagara Gorge extends from the falls for 11 kilometres (7 miles) downstream to the foot of the escarpment at Queenstown.
More than 168.000 cubic metres (6 million cubic ft) of water go over the crestline every minute during peak daytime hours.
