Castle "De Cannenburgh" is a renaissance castle which was inhabited in the 16th century by Marten van Rossum, captain of the army of the Duke of Gelre, was built on the remains of Middle Aged ruine.
The family van Isendoorn gained it by inheritance and lived on it for more then 300 years.
The last member of this family died in 1881.
In 1951 the foundation "Friends of Gelrias castles" became owner and they had it restored to old glory during the years in between 1976 and 1981.

Nowadays the castle is decorated as if it were the 18th century, the most important of the house.
The buildings in front of the castle at either side of the entrance lane were built then and in the castle itself major modernizations took place.
