Vianden, had heard much about it yet we never went for we thought it was far too touristic. Haha, might be so, yet now we have visited I wonder why we never went! So good Jacob and Simone wanted to go there!
At that time we stayed in Reisdorf, a little village in the flat part of Luxembourg. It was quite a drive to Vianden but when we finally saw the castle high above us we were ever so happy we went!
This little town close to the German border is one of the best-known holiday resorts in Luxembourg. Victor Hugo spent some of his time in exile here. The town is also the starting point for more than 100 km (62 miles) of paths and tracks for ramblers and cyclists leading to the romantic valley of the Our. It also has a number of buildings worth seeing and which allow insight into Vianden's history. The most beautiful of these, known as the castle houses, are in the Grand' Rue. Today, the Vianden Municipal Museum is located in one of them. Here, in addition to valuable artefacts and furniture, ancient utensils and artistically cast chimney plates are on display. The most impressive building in Vianden, however, is the mighty Burg (fortress) high above the town, the oldest parts of which go back to the 10th century. From the terrace in the south there is a magnificent view over the valley of the Our. Regular concerts and exhibitions bring life into the former defence complex.
The village Vianden is situated on some hills. We had to walk up the road towards the castle, quite steep, with high above us the mighty castle.

The clover windows which we saw when walking up to the entrance of the castle are a nice to frame my kids looking out over the landscape. |
Us in the chapel above the cellar. Kinda like this picture, dunno why. |
