"Top of the Netherlands!" Provincie Groningen by nighthawk

Provincie Groningen Travel Guide: 1,217 reviews and 2,858 photos

This province is the most northern of the Netherlands. Here you find neverending sights, only limited by the horizon and quaint little places/villages with funny names.
Well, in Dutch they sound funny enough, what do you think of:

* Hongerige Wolf / Hungry wolf
* Valom / Drop dead
* Doodstil / Silent as the grave
* Roode Haan / Red Rooster
* Broek / Trousers
* Harssens / Brains.

I am planning to make a tour and visit these places like I did with Matsloot, Sandebuur, Roderwolde, Peizerwold and Peizermade.

City of Groningen :
Once a year the city monuments can be visited.
This year (2002) the theme was merchandise and all buildings such as warehouses, former houses of trade, alm houses had opened their doors.
We visited several of them.

I never knew there was a Groningen road in Tasmania and VT-member Tasmania was so kind to lend me this pic as proof.
Abel Tasman, born in Grootegast in the province of Groningen did of course 'discover' Tasmania but I had more or less 'forgotten' bout it....dumb!

***LATEST NEWS*** She s coming to town!!!!

Hidden behind a blind wall lies this beautiful garden, De Prinsentuin. It s very peaceful here and in summer the smell of the roses in bloom hide the noise of traffic passing by.
It is a little bit further than the Martini tower, walking to the north east.
You can almost see the monks that once walked here contemplating, holding their prayer books in their hands.
