Aloha! And thank you for visiting my Hawaii Page.
Many people think Hawaii is its own country. Actually, it is a part of the United States!
However, Hawaii at one time was a Sovereign Island Nation with a King and Queen. It had a Constitutional Monarchy. In fact, Hawaii is the only State in the U.S. that has a Palace. |
The Hawaiian people have a very unique and often sad history. A history that was not so kind to the native Hawaiian people.
Their country was taken - some say stolen - by Merchant Class (Business Men) in the late 1800s. They illegally overthrew the Queen and eventually, Hawaii became a terriority of the US. And later, Hawaii became the 50th state only as recent as 1959.
There are very few Native Hawaiians left. Many were killed by the diseases brought over by the Westerners that 'discovered' the Islands.
To this day, however, Hawaii is very beautiful. Lush swaying palms, dramatic green mountains, surrounded by tropical warm, clear, blue water.
And the people of Hawaii look VERY UNLIKE what you would see on the other 49 United States. Hawaii is populated with a 60% Asian-mixed people. It is one of the states blessed with naturally beautiful people becasue the people are mixed ethnically. Many mixed races produces a Rainbow Look to the people.
And the "Aloha" spirit is very much a part of the life here. People in Hawaii are genuinely Very Nice and welcoming to all people.
Sometimes living here I too forget I am living in the United States... because the Mainland is SO far away.
If you get a chance to visit, I am sure you would like Hawaii's unique history and beautiful, welcoming people.
Much aloha, Patty | | |
