We crossed into Slovenia from Austria, spent a few hours roaming around Ljubljana, and headed towards the Adriatic Coastal town of Piran. Our goal was to go to Trieste, but by the time we got to Piran it was quite dark. We couldn't find any hotels cheap enough, and decided to camp. We found a proper campground and set up camp. The camp office was empty, however. We figured we would pay the next day. To our regret (ahem!) the next morning we departed earlier than the office opened. So we ended up leaving without having to pay our $20USD for two to camp. We used the bathrooms and showers (Hot Water/Clean Bathrooms) too, to further my guilt. (Arriving late, leaving early at camp grounds. I have since learned that my travel buddy does this INTENTIONALLY! Hmmmmm..... tacky I agree.)

We awoke to a beautiful day, and while I was still crazy about getting to Trieste, I was coaxed into taking some time to explore Piran a little first. Thank Goodness is all I can say. Trieste was a MAJOR let down, and Piran was a little gem! Quaint narrow streets, great bakeries, very nice people. And my first experience gazing upon the Adriatic Coast: simply stunning!

Even Ljubljana was a fun "youthful" town with ATM's, as I recall! VERY western city in all regards and yet "charming" at the same time.

I can't wait to revisit Slovenia!

Somehow I always get Slovenia mixed up with Slovakia, even though I went to Slovakia once as a day trip from Poland.
