Johannesburg is a big, wild city, and is the headquarters of South Africa's mining industry. Most of the horror stories you hear about crime and violence in South Africa take place in Johannesburg, which has one of the highest crime rates of any city in the world. JoBurg does have its nice parts, though, and you can't travel around southern Africa without passing through the Johannesburg airport at least a couple times. On my last trip to the continent, I transited through JoBurg five different times. Thank goodness there is a Nando's restaurant in the international terminal! |

cleocat Thu Jun 16, 2005 20:08 UTC Hi. The airport is not in JHB it is in Kempton Park where I live and it is really not that bad. In Jhb it is only the city centre that is bad and it has been upgraded now. Newtown is very popular. | mskullcap Thu Apr 25, 2002 15:08 UTC Joburg is NOT so scary. Just be smart. I lived there for 2 | gemma99 Tue Oct 23, 2001 04:45 UTC Too scary for me! |
