    Getting TO/AROUND:
I got to Niagara Falls by car. Getting into Niagara isn't such a problem, having a good parking spot for your car might be. If you just come for the day you can park your car at the huge parking lot after the Horseshoe Falls. The parking fee isn't cheap, but without a doubt there will be a parking spot. The parking lot is huge, and I mean HUGE! So big that there is a bus shuttle service to bring you from the parking lot to the falls (included in the parking ticket).

When you are planning to stay in Niagara overnight I would advice you to leave your car at the hotel and find other means of transport to move around in Niagara itself. I did most of it on foot, as I found this the less stressful way to get around, hahaha, and the cheapest too. But there are plenty of other options. You get a good overview of all your options on this website: http://www.infoniagara.com/transportation/index.html

The road conditions aren't always that good during the winter due to snow and ice rain. on this website :

    http://209.82.51.53/guestRC.htm

you can see what the road conditions are per road per region. On the picture you see the map of the south central region on 27th of November.

Green road : Bare & dry
Blue road : Bare & wet
Yellow road : Partially snow covered
    White road : snow covered
    Purple road : snow packed
    Orange road : slushy
    Red road : icy
Black/blue road : poor to nil visibility.

The website is constant update during the winter, so you have an up to date view of the road conditions.

Another useful website to see the road conditions is:

    http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/conditions/

Winter Road Conditions Reports are made available during the winter months, from the end of October to April each year.

Another website that I like very much is this online roadmap :

    http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/map/

With this website you can click on a part of the map of Ontario, and get the roadmap for that area. You can zoom in very good on an area, so it makes the map easy to read. Another option is to go to the index of place-names, and search the map that way. The maps are quite large, so it might take some time to download.

    Transportation: How far is it?

    Getting TO/AROUND:
Planning a trip, but don't know how far it is? This website can help you out :

    http://www.gov.on.ca/MBS/english/distance/index.html

60 cities in Ontario are listed on this website and you can calculate the distance between the two places. From Toronto to Tobermory for example is 300km (186 miles).

The calculated distances are based on each location’s city hall and are rounded to the nearest 5 kilometres.

Of course it is nice to have visible what the roads are like, and that is also possible through this website:

    http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/compass/camera/camhome.htm

Here you can click on a map and get the webcam of that stretch of road. This way you always have an up to date view of the road you want to travel. You can't see all the roads in Ontario though; the webcams are mainly in the Greater Toronto area.

In almost every village you'll find these strange buildings. They are for storage of sand and salt that is used in the winter months for the icy roads. There is a lot of snow in this area, so this is no luxury at all.

    Transportation: Snowmobiles

    Getting TO/AROUND:
Watch out for the snowmobiles! They have their own trails going through the countryside. But they also share the same road as you do, using the shoulder of the road. So be aware of them! They can go quite fast, and join the roads suddenly as part of their trail.

Great pics - we were there last Easter which was colder than Christmas so they told us but a little less snow. Great pics as ever. Are you sure you are supposed to take photos inside the IMAX?!?

Ah, the falls look terrific in winter with all that snow and iced leaves around :-)) Hihi, yes the colored falls, well well I thought the same :-) Oh, and polar paws would be something, sweet Nalle might use now, ok, I go knitting him some :-)))

I wouldn't call someone a daredevil who jumps down the Niagara, as there is a fair chance to survive, a daredevil is someone who flies Aeroflot, eats chicken meat in China and drinks self-distilled brandy "India style", preferably all at the same time :-)
