German soldiers at the north wing of the castle after the landing of the British paratroopers on the Doorwerther moor during the battle at Arnhem in 1944. On the roof you can see a British supply parachute.
You can see this picture together with a lot more picture of the castle during the Second World War in one of the rooms of the castle.

This is what is left of the castle after the Battle of Arnhem in World War II. De occupation of the enemy made this castle a target for the Allied troops. The south wing was blown away by the Germans. (picture D.Renes, 23 March 1946).
It is amazing to see how this castle has been rebuilt after the war. When I look at the castle as it is now, it is just unbelievable that it has been so severely damaged during the war.
