Palio in Siena

Siena is a beautiful city to visit, there is lots to see and do here. An absolute must on you visit to Tuscany. But Siena is not only beautiful it is almost famous for a certain event: the Palio!

Twice every year, on the 2nd of July and the 16th of August, the Paiio of Siena takes place. The Palio is a horse race, and its location is amazing: the main square of Siena (see in the previous tip). I still can't believe that this beautiful historical square is changed into a horse racing arena. I can only imagine what a chaos and hectic the city must be on these days.

I've visited Siena a week after the Palio and the city was still in the mood. The winning contrada was still celebrating on the streets waving their flag and making music. A pleasant surprise during my visit, which I really enjoyed.
