Netherlands Transportation: 244 reviews and 210 photos
The train is a very good way of transportation to the major cities in the Netherlands. The big advantage is that you arrive in the center of a city, without worrying about finding a parking spot for the car and of course, no traffic jams!!! Do count on delays though, and over crowded trains during rush hour.
In my opinion the train is not very cheap here, but an easy way to travel to the center of a major city.

me skating
Just once in a couple a years it is possible to skate on the canals. When this was the case in the time I live in The Netherlands, I always went to the Province of Groningen. It was just perfect there because I could walk with my skates out of the house, and go directly on the ice.
In this picture you can see me skating on the canal in Loppersum, the village where I used to live as a child.

Canoeing in the Province of Groningen
But there are some other fun ways of transportation here too. Go on a canoe trip like I did in the spring of 2001 in the Province of Groningen (take a look at my Appingedam page). Or go sailing on the `Ijselmeer` or one of the many lakes in the province of Friesland. There are so many canals and lakes here, you really should try to enjoy this way of transportation.

Parking meter
The car is a very easy way to get from A to B. The roads are good, and there are plenty of them. But.... be aware of the traffic jams. The roads are full here, and during rushhour a lot of road have traffic jams. Another disadvantage is finding a parking spot for your car. And if you find one in or close to the center of a city, you have to pay for it. There are parking meters everywhere! In this picture you can see a parking meter in my hometown of Oldenzaal. You can recognize them by a big P. So don`t forget to always have enough change with you when you come here by car. Parking can be very expensive in the major cities.

Me on the bycycle
Every Dutch person at least ownes one bike. There are 16 million people in this country and over 30 million bikes. Especially in the big cities like Amsterdam this is a good way of transportation.
I have more than one bike as well, but I don't use it very often. The only time I use it, is to get to the pub and back again.
