Garphyttan National Park has an ancient cultural landscape; meadows and forests were created by men until the end of the 18th century. Nowadays the landscape is kept in this old way. Meadows and trees are well kept and harvested with methods used in former days. One example of that is the harvesting of leave-trees, so called "hamling", where many branches are cut off from the trees. It is probably best to visit the park in the spring when the meadows are filled with beautiful spring flowers.

I love the national Parks in Sweden and it is a dream of Åke and me to have visited all of them at some day. It won't be easy as not all of them are so easy to reach, but we want to give it a try anyway :-)
I haven't been to Garphyttan National Park yet, but it looks so beautiful, I can hardly wait to go here. And hopefully that won’t be too long away, as we plan in going here in April 2004.
