Sarek National Park

This is the jewel in the crown of Swedish National Parks. No other area in Europe has equally large quantities of unbroken and monumental wilderness. Sarek is a part of the 8 200 km2 of protected mountain terrain - together with Padjelanta and Stora Sjöfallet National parks - but Sarek is the most dramatic of the three. It has for example lots of glaciers; it contains 6 of the 13 mountains in Sweden that are higher than 2000 m and 200 of its alpine hills massifs is higher than 1800 meter.

If you're lucky you can see some bear or lynx. The park is famous for its very big moose. It is in practice the Europe's only protected moose tribe. This is explained by the fact that the moose leaves the park late in autumn after the hunting season. Inside the park the moose are protected. Clever guys :-)))

Rapadalen, which is the valley with its strange delta, is an extraordinary sight throughout all the year. But due to avalanche danger and risk of harsh weather the park is not recommended to visit during wintertime. Best time for hiking is in the late August and September. There are no marked trails in the park and you require some experience of mountain hiking because of the severe terrain and very few shelter and bridges inside the park.

If you want more info about the park you can take a look at the parks website : Sarek National Park

I love the National Parks in Sweden and it is a dream of Åke and me to have visited all of them at some day. It won't be easy as not all of them are so easy to reach, but we want to give it a try anyway :-)
I haven't been to Sarek National Park yet, but it looks so beautiful, I really would love to go here. But as it is a park for the more experienced hiker, I probably have to wait a few years before I am ready for that. Here is a list of all National Parks in Sweden. The links are clickable so you can surf to all my National Park pages.
