    It is wonderful to see Venice by night. A lot of beautiful buildings have lots of lights, like the Piazza San Marco you can see in this picture. I've never seen a city more beautiful at night than Venice.

    Of course one of the places you have to visit during the day and evening is the Basilica di San Marco.

    • But not only the famous parts of Venice are beautiful to see at night, also the hidden spots and corners, like this square for instance. In the picture it does look a bit dark, but actually it was quite light on the square. It was wonderful to wander around in Venice in the evening.

    • There are a lot of picturesque little corners in Venice, like this little bridge over a canal. I love the way the light falls on the old coloured houses.

    • You can also see a picture of the Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore during the day in my General tips. But during the night it looks just as lovely with the lights shining on the church and the belfry.

    • Aaah, can't remember the name of this church anymore. Can anyone help me with that? This church is so beautiful, I would love to know its name.

    I felt very safe walking in Venice in the evening. I am normally not that happy with walking on the streets late at night, but in Venice I didn't feel scared at all. The atmosphere is so relaxed, everyone just seemed to enjoy this beautiful evening in Venice.

    • In the photo you can see me with Sarah (Venusia). We said goodbye to each other the day before actually. Hahaha, we both didn't know we were going to meet again. But after strolling a few hours in Venice, I got tired, and longed for a cup of coffee... hej... an internet cafe? Hmmm, that sounded good. I could rest, have coffee AND check my emails. So I got online, and so did Venusia! Aaaah, great to see you here! Where are you? And after chatting for a few minutes Venusia was on her way to the internet cafe and show us the city. I had such a great evening! We had a drink together in a wonderful pub, and strolled around the city, where Sarah pointed out the beautiful sights. At the 'Bridge of Sighs' it was time to say goodbye again. I do hope we can meet again some day... thanks Sarah for a great evening!

    • Hahaha, don't think it is all quiet in Venice during the evening! This is the vaparetto, fully packed when we got there. It was just leaving, so we waited for the next one. That was a very good choice, because now I could sit on deck up front, and enjoy the views. Brrrr, bring a good sweater though when you do this in November, because it is cold, brrrr.

    • It is wonderful to take the vaparetto at night. All the buildings are light up, and when you go with line nr.1, you go through the Canal Grande. Here are all the palazzos, and now the lights are on in the inside, so you can take a peak at the beautiful interiors.

     That's the Santa Maria Dei Miracoli, built 1481-9 by architect Pietro Lombardo. Located near Rialto on the San Marco side just into eastern Cannaregio. Often called the 'jewel-box'. Restored by Save Venice recently. Thanks, Save Venice!
