Favorite Thing:
Venice... I have heard so many different opinions on this city, some love it, and some don't. And I have to admit that I have always been sceptical about this city.... I felt it was like a tourist trap, and that I wouldn't like it at all.... hmmm, but not anymore! I surrender..... Venice is magical!
I've visited Italy several times, making a roundtrip in most cases, but never did go to Venice itself. Yes, it appealed to me somehow to go here, but on the other hand.... it just wasn't 'it'... hahaha, well, that was what I thought! But in November 2001 I got another chance to visit Italy, because I was going to the VT-meeting in Bergamo. But going to Italy for just one weekend didn't seem right. Hahaha, so I extended into a full week, including Venice in my trip. And I don't regret that for one minute!

Favorite Thing: This page I want to take you on a photo tour through Venice. Venice is a city you have to feel, you have to see, and absorb, before you understand its beauty. I cannot give you all that on my travel page, but I try to give you a little bit of how I felt while I was in Venice.
So please come and walk with me through Venice.... mmmmmm, or should I say 'get lost in Venice'. Because that is what you should do. Throw away the map you've got, and just start walking. Stroll through the little street, soaking in the sights, the old houses, canals, boats, sounds, and oh so beautiful squares.... Sometimes you get into a dead end street, but don't worry, and just turn back and take another little street, and be surprised again what beauty lies around the next corner. And don't worry for not finding the way back at the end of the day; because somehow, you will always find your way back.

Favorite Thing:
The colourful houses and the canals, they are a sight I will never forget. I even had a clear blue sky at this point, not something I had that much during my visit to Venice, so I was really pleased to see a bit of sunshine.

Favorite Thing: Going on the canals is a must, the view from here are so beautiful. So don't consider taking the vaporetto as only a way to go quick from A to B, but as a way to enjoy the beauty of this city.

Favorite Thing: O happy Streets! To rumbling wheels unknown, No carts, no coaches shake the floating town!
John Gray 1716
I find it amazing that what he wrote in 1716 is still true. Venice is a special place : the streets are replaced by water, and the cars by boats, which makes it unique.

Favorite Thing:
Look at this photo... it is so picturesque! A lovely small canal that runs between these old houses. I have no clue where I am now, because like I said... I got lost. Throwing away that map was the best thing I could do. I started of with following a 'walk through the city map'. But after half an hour I realized this wasn't the way to see Venice for me. I was looking up all the time, at the characteristic houses. Hmmm, yes they are old, and maybe you can't call them 'beautiful'. But they have so much character, that it just makes them beautiful. Hahaha, it was hard to look on the map this way, and keep track of where I was. I was also looking eagerly at all the little streets I 'wanted' to have a look at, but the 'map' didn't allow me to. Aaah, the frustration got the better of me, and I forgot about the 'map', and enjoyed exploring Venice on my own.

Another red and white one! They are not afraid of a touch of colour in Venice. Doesn't it look pretty!
