Part of my roundtrip through the Provence
The first real stop on our trip is the perched village of Sainte-Agnès. The village is high up at 681 meters, which makes it the highest 'village perché' on the coast. It’s located north-west of Menton. A small winding road leads you to Sainte-Agnès. Phew, these roads are something to get used to! They are so small and winding! Hahaha, to me it felt like it was only wide enough for one car at a time, not for passing any other cars. But you'll notice (means get scared, lol) the traffic when they come racing towards you (or from behind) in an amazing speed for these roads (the French don't seem to care if the road is wide or not, lol) and pass you with no problem. Sainte-Agnès is a lovely village, although it is a bit commercialized (but not as bad as Éze though). There are quite a few restaurants to be found in the small streets, and lots of little shops selling local artwork. Hahaha, it needs some climbing though! It is called a perched village, so that means high up the hill, with little streets and alleys climbing up and down the hill. |

matcrazy1 Thu Jan 11, 2007 11:17 UTC Beautiful, artisty cover photo. Haha, I have to drive this "wide" road - love it. Well, I was only in indeed highly commercialized Eze in late 1990'. |
