In these "nightlife tips" I want to put a few of my favourite sunset pictures. I really love watching the sunset, but when I lived in The Netherlands, I didn't have the time or the opportunity to enjoy it so much. So when I travel I always take the time to see the sunset. Just sit down and relax and see the sun go down. See the sky change in the most amazing colours until the sun disappears behind the horizon and the dusk begins. Now I am much more fortunate in Sweden, I live on a perfect spot to watch the sunset, as you can see in some of the next few pictures.

A sunset that is dear to my heart, and a sunset I can see often. It is taken during my evening walk from my house towards Sundbyholm Castle with the view over Lake Mälaren. This picture was taken in September 2003. It’s now October when I type this and the sunsets keep coming earlier and earlier, and the shadows grow longer day by day. A clear sign that winter is rapidly on its way. But the sunset keeps being beautiful every day, no matter what time of the year.

Another wonderful sunset at my home in Sundbyholm. I live at Lake Mälaren and this is the most wonderful spot to go see the sun go down. The reflection in the water, the amazing orange colours of the sun, it is amazing. When I notice that we are going to have another wonderful sunset I always try to walk to the lake and try to capture the moment with my camera.

Beautiful Italy and beautiful sunsets. I have seen so many beautiful sunsets in this country; that alone would be enough reason to visit Italy. But Italy has much more to offer than sunsets alone.

This picture was taken on the beach close to Paestum. It had been a beautiful day already, I had been to the magnificent tempels at Paestum (see my Italy page), and now this sunset... just gorgeous. The day had been perfect already, but this sunset was like the icing on the cake.

    Färnebofjärden National Park
    Sweden

Färnebofjärden is a National Park that protects a stretch of the Lower Dalälven River running from the city of Avesta to the Bothnian Sea. Water is the main feature of this park and water is what you will see here. Flooded areas, wetlands, streams and lakes, and of course wildlife, birds, forests and flowers. But mainly water.......... a beautiful sight to see, but it makes the area rather hard to access.

I arrived late afternoon at the park, very early in the season, with no people around yet. We were allowed to put up our little tent on the beach (an advantage of travelling off season), from where we had the most beautiful views over the waters of the Dalälven and Färnebofjärden National Park. The sun was going down, turning the sky into a work of art, but there was still enough light and time for a short walk along the shores. While walking on the beach we could see a deer quickly making its way over one of the wetlands, we heard the cry of a bird in the distance and the sound of a woodpecker in the tree above. The water was washing gently up the shore, the glittering of the sun in the water, a soft breeze, and the wonderful sound of 'silence'. This is how I remember Färnebofjärden, and how I liked it at its best.

    Beachy Head Light
    England

A perfect time of the day to see this lighthouse is at sunset. It is beautiful to watch to sun go down behind the white cliffs on the south coast of England and look at this beautiful lighthouse so spectacularly set in the water. But be there on time! The sun is set before you know it! I really had to rush to grab the camera and take these pictures. But it was worth while; I really loved to watch the sunset here.

It is kind of scary though, to stand on these cliffs and stare down at the lighthouse. So if you are scared of heights, it might not be the best lighthouse to go to, LOL.

You can find this lighthouse on the south coast of England, close to Eastbourn in East Sussex. The light is still operational. If you want to read more about this lighthouse, you can take a look at the following website http://www.trinityhouse.co.uk/html/tlh5.htm

The lighthouse dates back to 1902, and was automated in1983. There was a lighthouse in this area as early as 1670. This lighthouse replaced the Belle Tout Lighthouse, in operation from 1828 to 1899. The tower is built of 3,660 tons of Cornish granite. It is just offshore near the foot of a high cliff. The light was converted to solar power in 2000.

This is a spot where you can watch the sunset so beautifully. It is in the north of Groningen, in an area called `Hoeksmeer`. You can read a lot more about this area on my 'Hoeksmeer' page. There are lots more pictures of the windmill on that page as well. The windmill is called `The Meervogel`.

Oldenzaal, has been my hometown for a long time. This picture was taken very close to my home. The picture was made in the park here, called `Het Hulsbeek` in my hometown of Oldenzaal. It is made on a cold wintersday. It is very hard to see, but there are people skating on the ice.

A very cold winter day in Fort William Scotland. It has been the coldest winter ever in Scotland, the powerlines were breaking, waterpipes were bursting, but I was having the time of my live! It is soooooo cold, but there were also clear blue skies, and lots of snow. Scotland looked just beautiful! But when we got out of the car it was freezing!
The temperatures were -20 degrees celcius, no fun to hang around outside for a long time! That evening we were rushing to go to a restaurant in downtown Fort William as we saw this magnificent sunset. Who cares about the cold....
we just stopped in the middle of town and watched the sun go down.

I hope you liked seeing all these sunsets, and maybe they brought back some memories of some sunsets you have seen yourself.

If you have any sunsets photos that you would like to share, I would love to add them on my page. I can never get enough of watching a beautiful sunset.

Simone a romantic traveler, you may complete your sunsets photos with a poem, fitting for each landscape, occasion and moods you are these very moments. An excellent job you have achieved. All the best. Härtliga hälsningar från Apostolis i Grekland.
