Venezuela is a country with such a variety of landscapes that it would not disappoint its visitors. The country boasts the northeren tip of the Andes with snowcapped peaks, the Delta del Orinoco with a maze of natural channels, the north is bordered for some 3000km by the Caribbean and lined with countless beaches and the southern part of Venezuela is taken up by the legendary wilderness of the Amazon.
In the south-east of Venezuela you can find the Tepuis, the flat topped mountains with vertical flanks which loom over a thousand metres above rolling savannas. From one of them spills the Salto Angel (the Angel Falls, also see picture), the world highest waterfall (979m).
Venezuela is a relatively safe and friendly country in which to travel, with fairly inexpensive accommodation, food and domestic transport.
I went twice to Venezuela. The first time I went with some friends for one week and we visited Corro and Curimagua (the north-west site of Venezuela). We slept in a hotel in Curimagua and the owner of the hotel (a dutchman) arranged a jeep and a local guide for us and showed us a lot of that part of the country. We visited a lot of beautiful places and little villages and met a lot of local people. Check my travellogue for photo's and stories about that trip.
The second time, a few months later, I went to Isla Margarita, where I spent 3 days (that is more than enough) in total and I made a trip, from 8 days, through the Orinoco delta and the Angel Falls. In my travellogue you can also find more photo's and stories about this trip.
I had a great time in Venezuela and I certainly want to go there again!
