Arrival in Munich would... Airport - Connections and Airlines Review

Arrival in Munich would probably be either by plane or train.
By train you arrive in the Haupbahnhof, right in the center of town.
By plane, you arrive at Franz Josef Strauss Airport. This is Munich’s new Airport. It is a large modern Airport but is surprising user friendly. There are some distances to walk but there are a multitude of moving walkways. Trolleys are plentiful but note you pay 2 DM for the trolley and that is in reallity a hire price. You do not get your 2 Dm back if you return it to a trolley stand. You can if you have the time or the inclination, scout around at the departure gates and pick one up which has been left there by a departing traveller and thus avoid the “hire fee”.
When you are waiting for your bags pick up Faltfahrplan. this is a little map of the S-Bahn & U-Bahn, plus a detailed plan of the S1 & S8 which are the S-bahns that will take you to thr centre of Munich. It also has the times for the S1 & S8.
Get a Single-Tageskarke or if you are with someone (2 adults and up to 5 children) a Partrner-Tageskarte. they cost 18DM and 28DM respectively. They are valid until 6am the following day. A single journey ticket to the centre of town costs 15DM so one more small journey (if you are on your own)and you are ahead. If your with someone your ahead anyway.
Munich has an excellent public transport system. You have U-Bahn, S-bahn, Trams. If you're staying in the center of town you will probably find walking best.
