Warsaw was a great City. It was cruelly punished by the Germans during the occupation. 80% of the city was destroyed. Great efforts were made to rebuild parts it with loving care and where this was done, it is truly very beautiful. Full credit must be given for this re-construction. Other parts were rebuilt in typical post war communist style and can only be described grim. It is obvious that a City and it’s people, which suffered to the degree that Warsaw did, will not find it’s way back to greatness and prominence in 50 or 60 years. Even with a free economy, which it has only had for 11 years, this would be difficult. However it would appear the City and it’s people are getting back on the road to Warsaw’s former glory. I wish them all well in their endeavour, which they will, without doubt, achieve |
