Getting TO/AROUND: The best way to get around Amsterdam is by Tram. There are some buses (which go where trams don't) and one Metro line but it's unlikely, as a tourist, that you will use any other means of transport than the trams. All transport starts at the Central Station. If you are going to use public transport a lot, either to and from accommodation or for going around visiting the sights, get a travel pass. They are available for 1 to 9 days and can be purchased in the kiosk in front of the CS. They work out very good value You will also get a tram and bus map here. . If you're sticking to the centre of Amsterdam you will find walking is fine. You get to see some lovely sights and it's not a very large city.

Getting TO/AROUND: Flying is the best way to get to Amsterdam. Following arrival at Schipol, take the train to Central Station. Get your ticket from the ticket office before going down to the platform. The train goes every 10 minutes from platform 3 and is a fast train with no stops. There are trains from other platforms but 3 is best. All trains bring you to the CS, which is in the centre of Amsterdam.
