The Cheese is always packed very stylishly but is quite expensive.

At Least Do This: Unless you wanted a very special present, I cant see any reason for having to visit a "tourist" cheese shop.
The Dutch don't buy their cheese in these shops.
And remember no matter how nice the packing is, it will eventually end up in the bin.
If you're taken with a cheeseboard and knife, get them seperately in Hema.
Alternative: Buy you Cheese in any Albert Heijn supermarket. They are all over Amsterdam. The one behind the Royal Palace is open 7 days a week and and remains open late in the evening.
They have a most extensivre range of cheeses.
Buy vacuum packed with a long date. If you see a cheese you fancy at the counter ask for a sample. Do this as often as you like.
They will vacuum pack any cheese, so this will give you some extra time to get round to eating it. I beleive it's about 2 weeks, but ask the assistant. they will advise.
