This is the house where Anne Frank, her Family and some family associates hid from the Germans during the Occucation of Amsterdam. They were betrayed and transpoated to various concentration camps. Anne died in Bergen Belsen, in March 1945, just before the war ended. Her Diary was later found and published. Visiting the Anne Frank house is a very sad experience. it is also a very moving experience. Anne Frank house is open every day. From 9 am to 7 pm in off season and until 9 pm in Summer. There are a few days in the year when shorter hours apply and it is closed on 6 October - Yom Kippur. Entrance is Euro 6.50

This is really something different. Following the Alteration when Protestantism took over from Catholicism, there followed a period when Catholic Churches were forbidden. Wealthy merchants gradually placed catholic Churches in the attics of their houses. Eventually there were many such churches throughout Amsterdam. When the restriction on catholic Churches was removed, they became obsolete and disappeared. This one remains as a museum. It is, however, still a Ctholic Chuhch and an active place of worship. It is a popular venue for weddings. It is really very interesting

Amsterdam Sex Museum - Venus Temple Many cities now have Sex Museums. Of the many that I've seen this is probably one of the best. Of course they all approach the subject of sex differently and with a regional or national view. It may not be to everyone's liking and each person knows that themselves. I found it a bit of a laugh and very enjoyable. It's open from 10 am to 11pm There is another Sex Museum on the Oude Zijds Voorburgwal, if you fancy going to two. If one is enough, go for the one on the Damrak

This is a very different and very interesting Museum. It chronicles man's brutality and inhumanity towards fellow men and women. There is a very extensive collection of implements of torture and pictures of the torture actually taking place. It might not be to everyone's liking, but one can't deny history or the evil that has been perpetrated by men in the past. Well worth a visit.

This is an enclosed living area. They were set up in the 17th Century as a safe and secure living place for women only, no men being allowed to reside there. There were many throughout Belgium and the Netherlands, however most are now gone. In the centre is a Protestant Church and in one of the houses there is a "hidden" Catholic Church. It also contains the "Wooden House" which is Amsterdam's oldest house (1477) It is an amazing and peaceful place

The Waterloo Plein is the venue for the most famous Flea Market in Amsterdam. Nearly everything you can imagine is on sale here. There are a lot of clothes stalls and also many selling the usual market items i.e. hardware, tools, etc. However there are many bric-a brac stalls which are quite interesting. There is also a huge amount of "junk" for sale. God only knows what use some of it could be to anyone. Yet the whole experience is great fun and not one to be missed. If it wet or windy the stallholders don't set up. Try for a dry and calm day. Monday to Saturday!. Nothing there on Sunday!

This is litterally the most serious "junk" market I've ever seen. Having said that, it's quite good fun.

This is a large indoor market selling antiques, collectables and many other items. It is in no way a junk market. Great on a wet day. Not open Friday or Sunday

A book market is held on the Spui every Friday. While a lot of the books are in Dutch, there are alos a good share of Englisg Language books. If it rains or is windy it is cancelled.
