If you are in a traditional Czech pub – pivnice – and you want another, just finish your beer and sit where you are and you will be brought a fresh one, without asking. If you want to go, call for your bill and pay before finishing. This is normal practice in Prague. It’s not a trick on tourists. If you don’t go with tradition and end up with a beer you didn’t want, you can try giving it back to the waiter, but I think you might lose this one.

Narodni trida. I keep mentioning this place. Why? Narodni Trida is a useful place. It's very central. It is on the edge of the Old Town, it is close by Wenceslas Square and also just beside the New Town. It has a Tesco Supermarket and Department Store. It is a Metro station. It is a major Tram stop. And it seems to be a popular meeting place for locals.

Nothing to do in Prague. This is a marvellous little book (the size of a phrase book), that lists over 100 Bars, Clubs, Cafes etc in Prague. It is an absolute mine of information. It categorises everywhere, in every way. It gives the name in Czech and English It details location inc. tram or metro stop, and directions. It gives opening hours. It tells you what beer is available and the price. Also other drinks available. It also gives typical foods on offer, the price and when you can get it. It tells you about the customers i.e. Czech. / Tourist / ex-pat, with percentages. It gives a lot more information and also has comments on each establishment. I got mine in 1999. Then I stupidly lent my copy to someone. That, of course, was the end of that. You should never lend anything that you value. I e-mailed one of the authors, to inquire if it was still available and he very kindly sent me two copies in the post! So even if one copy is "borrowed" I’ll still have one. Obviously it is still available and while the prices may have risen a bit it is still a fantastic guide Get it. It cost me 30 Kc (Euro 1)

Shopping: Tesco. Narodni triada Not the Tesco you find in the UK. Yes the name is the same but there it ends. Large busy supermarket, in the basement, with huge range of food and drink. Great range of fresh bread that they seem to be constantly baking and so replenishing stocks from opening to just before closing. Open: Mon – Fri. 8 – 21, Sat 9 – 20, Sun 10 – 20 Upstairs there is a 4 floor Department Store, selling just about everything. Open: Mon – Fri. 7 – 21, Sat 8 – 20, Sun 9 – 20

Shopping: Bohemian Glass. This is everywhere. Some has a lot of multiple cuts, but I prefer lesser work (like Waterford Glass). Of course, everyone to their own. Either way the quality is excellent and the price extremly good.
