Shopping in Berchtesgaden is pleasant but not extensive. There is a good range of shops and anything you want is probably available but Berchtesgaden is a town rather than a city and has shops to match. Shopping Hours in Berchtesgaden are the traditional German hours of 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. and Saturday, 9am to 1pm except the first Saturday of the month and Saturdays in advent when they stay open to 4 pm. Supemarkets open earlier but close at 6 pm or 12.30 on Saturdays. Two large supermarkets about 1 Km from the Haupbahnhof on Am Mühlbach - the Salzburg Road (opossite each other) stay open until 8 pm, Monday to Friday and 4 pm on Saturday (6 pm on 1st Saturday of the month) Sundays is a definite closed day. If you're stuck for something it's the station or a garage and while you can get everything there, expect to pay more.

BillNJ Tue Apr 29, 2008 02:05 UTC Fantastic tips and photos! The Eagle's Nest looks spectacular. Also, I will remember 'ist hier noch frei' on my trip to Germany next month. Best from New Jersey, Bill | lostsooner55 Tue Oct 30, 2007 01:00 UTC I agree with you on the views from the Eagle's Nest. My number one travel mistake of all times was not taking my camera. I'm planning on going back in 2010, for the Passion Play, and will try to rectify that mistake then, lol. Gary | Britannia2 Sat May 12, 2007 19:44 UTC Wonderful pages - I have really enjoyed looking at them. | iandsmith Sat Jan 20, 2007 07:45 UTC Excellent tips, 5 star stuff. I'm off there next month for only my second time and will enjoy it more as a result of your info. |
